The present focus of the Test Bed is the maturing of potential solutions, providing benefits to the National Airspace System (NAS) airports and terminal areas in the relatively near term. The focus areas include: - Advanced integrated airport surface and airspace surveillance;
- Advanced wireless communications to the airport environment;
- Secure system wide information management, including remote user nodes;
- Techniques for sharply reducing the pressing safety problem of incursions onto active runways and taxiways;
- Facilities remote from the airport to enable providing the air traffic control services performed today from expensive air traffic control towers;
- Decision support tools, automation and associated procedures enabling more efficient gate-to-gate aircraft operations; and
- Advancements for managing the complexities of multiple airports' surfaces and the adjacent airspace (i.e., the metroplex) as a collaborative "system of systems."
